STRATEGIC PLAN PROCESS

Since the publication of the last strategic plan in 2008, St. Margaret’s has been engaged in thoughtful review of our programs within the context of the school’s mission.

In 2012, the Board of Trustees and Head of School completed a year-long study of the school’s academic program, including curriculum, student assessment and faculty evaluation. Concurrently, the board also completed a comprehensive financial sustainability analysis, including the school’s local demographics, market position, financial structure and income sources. The resulting recommendations and action items were adopted and implemented over the subsequent school years.

In 2013, St. Margaret’s created five new academic task forces, comprised of trustees, the school’s academic leadership, faculty, staff, students and parents, to study and make recommendations for future development in the areas of 1) diversity and inclusivity education, 2) global education, 3) STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education, 4) environmental sustainability, and 5) health and wellness education. Completed in 2014, many of the task force recommendations have already been implemented and they also served as a foundation for some of the goals contained in the new strategic plan.

In 2014, the Board of Trustees determined it was the appropriate time to complete a full review of the school’s strategic direction. The Board created a Strategic Plan Steering Committee and engaged Roger Weaver of The Weaver Group to serve as a consultant for the process. The committee worked with Mr. Weaver and his team to enlist qualitative and quantitative approaches to gather input from all constituents of the school, including parents, students, alumni, faculty, staff, the administration and the Board of Trustees.

Our community participated at record levels, and overwhelmingly affirmed the school’s mission, as well as the curriculum, which places a high value on character, community, balance and breadth and high expectations for our students to achieve their full potential.

The 2016 Strategic Plan establishes the school’s overarching strategic priorities and goals to advance the mission and values for our students in the years to come.

It will be the responsibility of the Head of School and the Board of Trustees to communicate progress in achieving these goals to the whole community.
